Lip-syncing task

We chose Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’ for people to lip sync to. We then took the camera on its dolly around the school looking for people who wouldn’t mind being in our music video. We printed out a copy of the lyrics so that they could read them before miming to help them remember the lyrics. We played the song aloud on a phone so that they could hear the timing for them to ‘sing’ and let them practise one or two times before actually filming it, still with the music playing out loud. It was fine to play the music out loud as because it’s for a music video, we remove any audio from what we filmed anyway and add the song.

During the editing process, we imported all the film clips from the SD card in the camera onto Final Cut Pro. We then chose what clips we wanted to go where. Once we put a clip on the timeline, we cut it to the length we wanted and tried to edit it to fit the song. We found that some people we had filmed were miming slightly out of time with the song and so we removed tiny bits from the same clip so it would fit better. This created a few jumps, but we felt that this was okay as it was only a test and our first practical task. After we had put all the clips together, we added some effects to enhance the video.

Now that we have finished this project, we can see that there are still some issues with the lip syncing, but we feel that this will enable us to learn from this and improve for the next time we need to use lip-syncing which will be in our actual music video.
